What I Can Teach You About

How to Prevent Death of Indoor Plants.

As early as two millenniums away, humans were sharing their homes with plants. This is when the Ancient Rome kingdom was in force but before then there was the widespread use of decorative plants. Because of the long history human beings have had with plants in their space, one would think that by now everyone would be good at taking care of them. There are many people who are still unable to keep indoor plants alive though. This is why some are always looking for easier ways to keep indoor plants alive. There are a number of ways you can do better. Just like human beings need food and water, plants require water and light. The photosynthesis process relies on water. The light should be optimal though because too little will have them starving and too much will cause them to die. To ensure the plants are making enough food for their survival, keep them near and window and ensure it is always open. If you use water contaminated with chemicals to water the plants, you will poisoning them. Rainwater or spring water is the best option. The tap water is treated with chlorine but this is not good for the plants or animals and this is why you should invest in a good faucet filter to get rid of the chlorine before you can direct this water to the plants.

Do not forget how important drainage is when it comes to tending to indoor plants. This prevents the issue of drowning the plant. Under the soil of all potted plants where the pot does not have drainage holes, you should add a material to absorb the excess water. You can use charcoal, stones, pebbles or even peanuts. The penetration of water through items which have finer particles is much better which means what you choose should have particles finer than soil. When you buy potting soil, it is likely to be comprised of clay, sand and silt. Of all this, the clay particles are the finest which is why you should go for that to make the filter base. However, remember that the potting soil should ensure the plant does not drown. Plant pruning is important to keep them healthy. This should be done annually. With low temperatures, the plants will be needing this even more. This is how the unhealthy, weak and sickly parts are removed. Additionally, it prevents a top-heavy or a lopsided look. By pruning, you prevent the risk of the plant collapsing. Pruning is done during the cold season because there is a minimal amount of growth during that period.
